Open Teaching Faculty Position in Analytics

The University of Southern California, one of the nation's top research universities, seeks a candidate for a teaching position (Lecturer or higher rank) to teach undergraduate and graduate students in courses offered by the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible teaching faculty position on the non-tenure track. The USC Viterbi School is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and welcomes applications from women, individuals from racial/ethnic populations demographically underrepresented in engineering, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.  Competitive candidates will have the training and experience to teach effectively in a highly-ranked department that advances undergraduate students through an accredited BS degree program and graduate students enrolled in world-class MS and PhD programs.

We are interested in candidates from all areas of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Analytics (Descriptive, Predictive, and Prescriptive), Data Mining and Machine Learning, Optimization, Systems Simulation, and computational tools for analytics (Python, R, SAS, SQL).

We invite applications from candidates knowledgeable in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and will focus on a candidate's promise and/or track record during the review process. This is primarily a teaching position; all candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching. Lecturers will require the majority of the time to be spent on teaching and teaching-related duties with reduced obligation for research and university service. An earned doctorate degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field is required.  While we seek applications at the level of Lecturer, in exceptional cases applicants with longer and more accomplished teaching experience and/or other significant credentials may also be considered for a commensurate higher-ranked position (e.g., Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of Practice, or Professor of Practice).

The anticipated start date is August 16, 2022. Candidates should apply at https://usccareers.usc.edu/job/los-angeles/open-rank-lecturer-of-industrial-and-systems-engineering/1209/18305287632.  Applications must include a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a teaching statement (up to 2 pages), and names of at least three professional references at least two of whom must be familiar with and able to comment on the applicant's teaching experience. Applicants may optionally include a research or service statement. Applicants are encouraged to include a succinct statement on fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion. Applications should be submitted by March 1, 2022, in order to receive full consideration; applications received after this deadline might not be considered.

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering is among the top engineering schools in the world. It counts 189 full-time, tenure-track faculty members and also 117 full-time teaching-track and research-track faculty members. Department faculty engage in interdisciplinary research through the school's research centers, including the Information Sciences Institute, the Department of Homeland Security's first University Center of Excellence (CREATE), the National Center for Metropolitan Transportation Research (METRANS), the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Society, USC Machine Learning Center, and the Center for Advanced Manufacturing. Research expenditures typically exceed $210 million annually.  With 19 tenure-track/tenured and 6 teaching faculty, the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is one of the nation's leading centers of research and education in the field.
