CLAREMONT GRADUATE UNIVERSITY: Senior Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Business Analytics

The Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) invites applicants for a tenure track position in Business Analytics. The ideal candidate will have deep business analytics expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong grounding in Marketing, although we are open to candidates from other functional areas. We usually prefer to hire senior assistant professors who have a record of excellence as teachers, along with proven success in publishing impactful high-quality research. Faculty who do well here already have an established network of research colleagues and a robust research pipeline.

The Drucker School is named after Peter Drucker, widely considered the most influential thinker on management of our time. Drucker served as a professor at the Drucker School for over forty years. What we take from his work is a set of principles that shapes our point of view on graduate management education and guides our curriculum.

One of our guiding principles is a belief that management is a liberal art. The practice of management is very people-centric, and effective leaders seek to maximize human potential for the common good. This is why you will find courses in our curriculum that emphasize self-management and examine how you lead and develop other people. It is also important to us that our teaching and research aims to ensure leaders understand how embracing diversity enhances their success and that we train leaders who can excel in developing diverse teams that thrive. We will, therefore, place a value on applicants who can demonstrate that they for example, understand the diversity of people, and understand how to identify talent in diverse contexts.

In addition to a focus on people, we believe that performance and accountability for results are equally important. We address these topics throughout our curriculum and expect our students to use data to make evidence-based decisions within a functional area or for the organization as a whole. This is why we are expanding our expertise in business analytics. Especially important in this position will be someone who, when working with data, considers that people come from diverse backgrounds.

CGU is an independent institution devoted entirely to graduate study. CGU is a member of The Claremont Colleges, a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges that is nationally and internationally renowned for academic excellence.  Given the transdisciplinary nature of graduate education at CGU, scholars whose research and teaching engages multiple fields and crosses disciplinary boundaries, and who are willing to mentor students beyond the areas of their own specialized research expertise, will find the Drucker School and the university a particularly congenial intellectual home.

The city of Claremont is a charming small town located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, at the foot of the San Gabriel mountains and less than 50 miles from Southern California beaches.

CGU is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, religion, ancestry, sex, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, marital status, or any other basis protected by applicable laws in its employment or hiring practices.  CGU is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in this area. Applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and inclusion are particularly encouraged to apply as are individuals who have membership in one or more of the following groups whose underrepresentation in the American professoriate have been severe and longstanding: Alaska Natives, American Indians, Blacks/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders, and Puerto Ricans.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, CV, a one-page statement regarding ability to foster a diverse campus environment and contribute to the academic success of students from historically underrepresented communities, evidence of teaching effectiveness, copies of two research papers and the names and contact information for three references by e-mail to drucker@cgu.edu.  The search committee will begin reviewing applications on November 1, 2019 and will continue the search until the position is filled.  It is our hope that the successful candidate would join the CGU faculty on July 1, 2020.
