Earlier this week, I had announced a student competition entitled "fORged-by-Machines", a contest being sponsored by Amazon Web Services.  Due to some questions posed by contestants, we have prepared a short FAQ which is attached (along with the problem statement itself).  Here is some additional information:

Judging Process.  The entries will be judged based on the performance of the inventory policy using two-years worth of monthly demand data.  Other criteria (e.g. clarity of the write-up) are also mentioned in the announcement of the contest (see attached). The judges will pick three finalists who will present their solutions on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 5-6 pm at the Diamond meeting room located on the lobby level of the Sheraton.
Who are the Judges?  The contest will be judged by a representative from Amazon, and two professors:  John G. Carlsson (USC) and Anton Kleywegt (Georgia Tech.)
Location of Award Ceremony.  The Awards, sponsored by AWS, are $1,000 for the winner, $500 for the runner-up and $250 for the honorable mention.  These will be presented at the INFORMS Computing Society business meeting on Monday, October 21, 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

    Good Luck to all contestants!
