    Posted 01-21-2020 08:13

The Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University is now accepting applications for postdoctoral research fellow positions in operations research and analytics. The positions will investigate the role of data and information in decision making, for the design and operation of equitable and robust systems.

Research at Heinz College (https://www.heinz.cmu.edu/) is driven by a strong passion to understand and improve our society analytically – in areas such as mobility, statistical fairness, privacy, healthcare management, and the future of work. Successful candidates will join this active group of colleagues with expertise spanning operations research, statistics, information systems, and economics.

Possible topics for the postdoctoral positions include designing resilient and equitable supply chains; improving mobility of underserved populations; identifying and improving social determinants of health (SDOH); and understanding the theoretical properties of decision models that naturally arise from such application domains.

Candidates should have a PhD (by Fall 2020) in operations research, industrial engineering, management science,  or computer science, broadly defined. Successful candidates should have research experience in one of the methodological areas: optimization, (discrete) convex analysis, machine/statistical learning. They will report primarily to Prof. Peter Zhang, and be encouraged to publish in top-tier journals and conferences. They are welcome (not required) to collaborate both within Heinz and across Carnegie Mellon University, including the Tepper School of Business, the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering, and the School of Computer Science. They will receive regular mentorship through the lifecycle of the research projects, and be encouraged to disseminate research findings in major conferences and seminars. The appointment is for one year with an option of renewal for a second year.

Interested candidates should submit their CV, two reference letters, and writing samples to https://apply.interfolio.com/73127 no later than Feb 8th, 2020. Review of applications will begin immediately and the positions will remain open until filled.
