     Research Environment

RSM is committed to be a research-led business school. It has seven academic departments with distinct focuses in terms of research and teaching. The Netherlands – and Rotterdam, which is home to the biggest sea port in Europe – is an international gateway to the massive markets of Western Europe, and the Dutch logistics sector employs over 750,000 people and adds about €40 billion to the country's gross domestic product (GDP). The city is the location for distribution centres of American and Asian multinational companies, and the trend for outsourcing and off-shoring production to the Far East has resulted in offshoring and outsourcing operations to find a home here too. In addition, The Netherlands hosts a thriving retail sector, with several Dutch retailers operating globally. Logistics knowledge is increasingly important to sustain turnover in the Netherlands, and research and teaching from the Department of Technology & Operations Management is inspired by our home city but is influenced by and has influence on the rest of the world.

The positions are in the Department of Technology & Operations Management, in the Supply Chain Management section. This department has a strong tradition in using, critically reviewing and improving analytical and empirical research methods, and mathematical modeling and simulation.

The section is part of a strong community of 90 researchers, including more than 40 PhD students in ERIM's Business Processes, Logistics, and Information Systems track (LIS). ERIM is the joint research institute of RSM and the Erasmus School of Economics. The aim of the ERIM-LIS research group is to be at the forefront of developments in its domain, and to make major contributions to management research and to management practice. Our research is largely inspired by business challenges and is often carried out in close co-operation with organizations in the profit and nonprofit sectors, and public authorities.

RSM uses elements of SCM in both bachelor programmes and several of its master programmes. There is also a specialized MSc in Supply Chain Management. Moreover, the SCM section is one of the founding members of the MSc in Business Analytics, an innovative new master programme at RSM. The candidate for the Supply Chain Analytics position is expected to especially contribute to the latter by teaching relevant courses. Further, the candidate's research and teaching activities are expected to greatly benefit from, and contribute to, the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics, a flagship centre of RSM. The centre coordinates teaching, research, and valorization activities in the domain of business analytics. The candidate can benefit from, among others, the extensive business connections of the centre, its media support, and IT facilities.

     Employment conditions

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. Erasmus University Rotterdam has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a generous number of vacation days.

     How to apply

The application deadline is 1 December 2019, but we will continue to accept applications until the positions are filled. Shortlisted candidates who submit their application package until 14 October 2019 23:59 GMT will be interviewed at INFORMS.

Applicants should email their letter of interest, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, two recent (working) papers and names of three referees to Carmen Meesters-Mirasol cmeesters@rsm.nl, with a copy to the chair of the hiring committee, Dr Ioannis Fragkos (fragkos@rsm.nl).

Screening will start immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
