    Dear Community,

Join industry expert and RAS distinguished member Carl Van Dyke as he explores the legacy of today's operating plan control systems, and the impact of their legacy on the suitability of these systems to manage today's railway operations. Based on the lessons learned, a number of critical gaps will be identified and discussed.  The talk will then explore a variety of potential design improvements that could overcome these gaps, and also bring greater functionality going forward.

Carl Van Dyke has spent over 40 years focused on the design, implementation, deployment and application of software technologies used to improve the operational performance of freight railways. This includes the development of numerous software tools, such as the highly successful MultiRail planning platform, and pioneering the development and deployment of technologies such as algorithmic blocking. He has worked with all of the major North American railways (Canada, U.S., Mexico), as well as many large railways across Europe and Asia. He founded MultiModal Applied Systems in 1992, which became part of Oliver Wyman in 2006. He left Oliver Wyman in 2013 after 8 years as a partner, and now works as an independent consultant. Recent engagements include replatforming design work at BNSF and Norfolk Southern, and assisting Cedar AI in the development and deployment of its rail-focused software products. He is also working on the design and prototyping of a new service design planning system.
