    The Auburn University Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of occupational safety and ergonomics/human factors with an anticipated start date of January or August 2022. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, (i) artificial intelligence for systems safety and/or ergonomics (e.g. biomechanical exposure assessment) applications; (ii) cognitive systems engineering of cyber-physical systems; and (iii) autonomous mobile robotics and/or guided vehicle safety.

    A successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong extramurally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentor students as a member of the Center for Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, and Injury Prevention (COSEIP) at Auburn University. The faculty member will also participate in outreach and provide service to the department, college, and university. The candidate will develop programs that are respectful and affirming of all forms of diversity, including gender, religion, sexuality, disability, age, socioeconomic status, veteran status, ethnicity, race, and culture that will serve as a resource and benefit to students of the ISE Department.     Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctorate in Industrial Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline at the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will be certified as a safety professional or in the process of becoming certified. Applicants should complete the application online and should submit a cover letter, separate statements of research and teaching experience, and three letters of recommendation. Candidates selected for these position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

    The ISE Department has a strong and progressive research program and a long tradition of excellence in both graduate and undergraduate education. The department is comprised of 20 faculty members (15 tenure track), 221 graduate students (78 of whom are in the doctoral program), and 397 undergraduate students (approximately 36% female and 13% underrepresented minorities). Our student population has grown over 230% in the last ten years and we have hired ten new faculty members in that period. Auburn University is located in Auburn, Alabama, approximately 1-½ hours southeast from Atlanta, Ga., 50 minutes from the capital, Montgomery, and 2 hours from Birmingham.
