    Hi everyone! I have a quick question for people working in industry/practice/government, what is your job title?

    Please reply to this thread or shoot me a message, thanks in advance for your help. Mary

    Over my 20+ year career, mostly spent in revenue management practice, I've seen the job titles progress from "Operations Research Analysts" to the now far more common use of "Data Scientist".  I've seen some publications regarding this topic but it seems to still be in a state of transition with significant ambiguity.  It's not merely about the semantics between OR (operations research) and DS (data science) but becomes more complex and important when trying to differentiate levels of experience and qualification.  This is all before the scope increases with titles containing analytics, engineers, ml, ai,....

    Having spent years in management of OR/DS teams I have keen interest in this topic especially from the recruitment and employee development perspectives.

    My sense of this is that it's heading in the following general direction;
    Operations Research Analysts --> Data Scientist
    Manager --> Senior Data Scientist
    More senior levels are using "Principal" or "Chief"

    To answer the specific question, my current job title is that of "Vice President & Principal Scientist Revenue Management & Fleet".

    Apologizes.
    In the system, the stuffing of double symbols is sometimes reduced for a reason unknown to me. Maybe I'm hitting the keys too fast. Sometimes it's hard to see on the screen, because my eyes are no longer microscopes.
    "Professional", of course.
