Notice the new deadline of Sept 1, 2020 for this special issue.

    Optimization Letters: Special issue:
Optimization in Natural Resources, Environment and Sustainability

Guest Editors: Dr. Sandra D. Eksioglu (University of Arkansas), Dr. Sauleh Siddique (Johns Hopkins University), and Dr. Yu Wei (Colorado State University)

    Submission deadline: September 1, 2020

The focus of this special issue is to highlight and disseminate advances in operations research, systems analysis and management science to the study of natural resource, environment and sustainability. As such, this special issue will serve as a platform for an open dialog among researchers from different fields who use optimization tools for natural resources research. The goal is to share best practices that lead to sustainable management of depleting natural resources, such as, forest and agricultural resources, clean water and energy which are vital for the wellbeing of humanity. We expect this issue will lead to an improved understanding, and the development of solutions, to complex problems faced by practitioners who are involved in developing and implementing sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

This special issue is soliciting original and high-quality papers which address emerging trends and advances in the following list of topics:

    • Bioenergy supply chain optimization
    • Climate change mitigation strategies through natural resource optimization
    • Forest supply chain optimization
    • Interplay between natural resources and fossil fuels for sustainability using optimization models
    • Optimization approaches to food-energy-water nexus
    • Optimization models for forest and wildfire fuel treatment and suppression decisions
    • Optimization models for forest health and restoration
    • Optimization models for forest management and planning
    • Optimization models for invasive species and wildlife habitat management
    • Optimization models for land-use
    • Optimization models for natural resources management
    • Optimization models for natural resource use in a future low-carbon economy
    • Optimization models for sustainable water resources management
    • Optimization models for technology development and adoption under environmental regulations and competition
    • Optimization models for wildfire risk management
    • Spatial analysis and modeling of biomass resources through optimization

Please, select "S.I: NRES2020" for the article type when submitting your contribution. All papers will go through a peer review process.
