The Annual Conference and Expo of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE) is one of the largest conferences in the ISE community and is an excellent forum for exchanging knowledge and discoveries in the broader industrial and systems engineering research community. Since the official inclusion of Systems Engineering in the name of the institute, which resulted in a name change from IIE to IISE, the Systems Engineering and Design track has become a great opportunity for the systems engineering and design community to promote their work and increase awareness about systems research in the broader IE community.

To take advantage of this opportunity, and as track chairs of the Systems Engineering and Design Track, we would like to invite you to contribute to the conference by submitting an abstract. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work at the conference, either as an oral or poster presentation. Each oral presentation session will be 80 minutes and have 4 presenters. In addition to paper presentations, there will be a number of panel discussions on areas of interest in research and education as related to Systems Engineering and Design.

We welcome abstracts in all areas of research related to Systems Engineering and Design, including, but not limited to:

    • SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
    • SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
    • ENGINEERING DESIGN DECISION-MAKING
    • SOCIO-TECHNICAL SYSTEMS
    • NETWORK SCIENCE
    • COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS
    • ENGINEERING DESIGN SCIENCE
    • NETWORK SCIENCE IN SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
    • COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS
    • SYSTEM SAFETY AND RESILIENCE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING TRAINING
    • SYSTEMS-OF-SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
    • HUMANS IN DESIGN
    • MODELING AND SIMULATION FOR COMPLEX ENGINEERING SYSTEMS

Notification of decisions on abstracts will be made by November 30th, 2018. All accepted authors are required to submit a 200 word abstract for the conference program by January 18, 2019. Authors will also have an option to submit a 6-page paper for the conference proceedings. The papers should contain results that are significant and have archival value to the industrial and systems engineering research community. Full papers will undergo a double-blind peer review process. All accepted papers are indexed by ProQuest. Only full paper submissions will be considered for the conference best paper awards and indexed in the conference proceedings. While presentations without a paper are acceptable we strongly encourage authors to submit full papers.

The important deadlines for the conference are:

    • Abstract Submission Deadline: November 9, 2018
    • Notification of Decision on Abstract: November 30, 2018
    • Deadline for submitting required program abstract and optional paper: Jan 18, 2019
    • Notify authors of Conference Proceedings (full) paper decision: Feb 19, 2019
    • Final Paper Due: March 5, 2019

If your abstract or paper is accepted: (a) the presenting author for the paper must register for the conference by mid March 2019 (exact date to be announced. Presentations/papers without the presenting author being registered for the conference will be withdrawn from the program and the proceedings); (b) The presenting author must attend and present the paper at the conference; (c) We ask that you be ready to serve as a reviewer for fellow authors and follow review deadlines; and (d) no author may present more than two papers.

In addition to research presentations, the annual conference offers many opportunities for attendees, including the Applied Solutions Conference program, plant tours, networking, and keynote speakers.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
