    Doctoral Student in Smart City Logistics  - KEDGE Business School (Campus de Bordeaux, France) & Kühne Logistics University (KLU) (Hamburg, Germany)

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Walid Klibi of the CESIT-KEDGE Business School and Prof. Jan Fransoo of the KLU, and be hosted by both schools.

    The position involves the conduct of research on innovative business models of logistics activities in urban areas in link with organisations and research centers involved in smart city projects. It also implies the publication of the output of the research in academic and professional journals. More specifically, the research will mainly focus on smart city logistics with the development of data-driven optimization and simulation models that help designing better urban distribution networks. The PhD candidate will lead prospective innovations in urban logistics in link with the concepts of IoT, digitalization, IA & analytics, etc. Among the duties of the PhD candidate is gathering and analysing data from the partnering organizations, designing and developing a modelling framework, and running experiments and simulations. The student could be invited to spend some time within the partnering organizations or research centres.

    Admission requirements :

    Applicants should hold a Master of Science (or equivalent), and have a background in Supply Chain Management or Industrial Engineering. Skills and research experience in areas such as Supply Chain Modelling, Network Design, Discrete Simulation, Operations Research and Data Science would be advantageous. Individuals in any field of Supply Chain research are encouraged to apply. We are particularly seeking those with interests and experience in urban logistics. The applicants should have excellent English communication skills (TOEFL or IELTS) and be willing to travel abroad.

    The position has a duration of 4 years and can start as soon as the selection process has been completed. The PhD candidate can expect comprehensive support for conducting research. This includes close supervision, involvement in active research groups, participating in external PhD courses and academic schools. The successful candidate will receive a scholarship of 1,688 EUR gross per month and funding for research visits and international conferences.
