    Dear Colleagues:

On June 21, 2016, we got the official news from Financial Times (FT) that FT has decided to include M&SOM on the FT 50 journal list starting January 2017!  Based on the information provided by FT, M&SOM was selected from 9 out of 150 journals nominated by over 140 business schools around the world (two-thirds of 210 participating schools).

Getting M&SOM on the FT list represents 16 years of unceasing effort in the making, especially the efforts exerted by authors, review board members, all former editors, and INFORMS. More importantly, we could not have reached this milestone without the unwavering support from our colleagues and deans from many business schools located in Americas, Australasia, China, Europe, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. On behalf of M&SOM and INFORMS, I am grateful to all of you.

It is gratifying to reach this milestone, but there are other milestones ahead! We must continue our effort to make OM research more impactful to the society at large in order to keep M&SOM on the FT list in the future. For your information, FT reviews its journal list every 5 years and the next review will occur in May, 2021. FT reviewed 10 journals in 2016 and has decided to drop 4 top journals and retain the remaining 6 top journals: Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Econometrica, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Quarterly Journal of Economics

What’s next for M&SOM In my opinion, M&SOM should continue to publish top quality research papers that are relevant to Operations Management. Besides rigorous analysis, we should also explore research dealing with “innovation operations” or “innovative business models” arising from sharing economy, network economy, emerging markets, etc.

By pursuing innovative, relevant and rigorous OM research relentlessly, M&SOM can continue to publish OM research that can change the world, and our OM community will continue to thrive!

I am counting on you for your support!

    Chris Tang.
