I would like to invite you to attend the conference described below and also to consider submitting a one-page abstract for a talk or poster at this conference.  Please also encourage other appropriate persons to do the same.

The Business Information and Analytics Center (BIAC) of Purdue University is organizing a research conference on Data Science for Business and Economics, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26.  The conference will feature interdisciplinary speakers from business, economics, computer science, statistics, and other areas, as they explore the use of data science to solve real-world problems.  We encourage talks that push the frontier of our understanding and/or help tame the complexity of data analyses for business decision making via theoretical and empirical studies or foundational discoveries. The program will include several paper sessions, a poster session, and a panel discussion on emerging issues in data science. Each paper session will begin with a talk by a distinguished keynote speaker.  The following are the keynote speakers:

    ·        David Bell, chaired professor of Marketing, Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania

    ·        Ramayya Krishnan, chaired professor Management Science and Information Systems and dean, Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, and president-elect of INFORMS

    ·        Cris Moore, resident professor, Santa Fe Institute, and fellow of American Mathematical Society, American Physical Society, and American Association for the Advancement of Science

    ·        Rakesh Vohra, university professor with appointments in Economics, Electrical and Systems Engineering, and Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania.

A limited number of talks/papers and posters will be accepted for the conference.  To propose a talk or poster, the author(s) should submit a one-page abstract by March 15, 2018.  The authors of accepted talks and posters will be notified by April 15.  The talks will be restricted to 20 minutes, with 5 additional minutes for Q&A.  The poster presenter(s) will have 2 minutes to introduce their work to the audience.

Please note that one must register to attend the conference.  The registration deadline is May 15, 2018, but the authors of accepted papers/posters must register by May 1 (at least one author of every accepted submission must register for the submission to be included on the program).  The conference has a limited capacity, and registration will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis until the capacity is reached.

A flyer/poster for the conference is available here:  http://www.krannert.purdue.edu/centers/business-information-and-analytics-center/images/2018_BIAC_Flyer%20v3.pdf.  Please feel free to share the flyer with others.  Among other things, it includes a link to the conference website, which provides information about keynote speakers and their talks, tentative agenda, accommodation, abstract submission, and registration.

Please write to BIAC@purdue.edu or call 765-496-8000 if you have any questions.

    Best,
