    Position Description:
    The College of Engineering at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is looking for dynamic individuals seeking to impact their profession and ask those individuals to apply for the position of Chair of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at NDSU.

    NDSU is the state's 1864 land-grant institution, and one of the nation's top 107 public and private universities in the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education's elite category of "Research Universities/Very High Research Activity, R2." The IME department has 8 <g class="gr_ gr_20 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="20" data-gr-id="20">faculty</g> and a growing population of students currently sitting at approximately 200 undergraduates and 20 graduate students. The department offers the following degrees: BS in Industrial Engineering and Management, BS in Manufacturing Engineering, both degrees accredited by ABET, MS in Industrial Engineering and Management, MS in Manufacturing Engineering and <g class="gr_ gr_19 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="19" data-gr-id="19">PhD</g> in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
    The successful candidate will demonstrate transformational leadership of the IME department towards fulfilling its land-grant mission of teaching, <g class="gr_ gr_22 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="22" data-gr-id="22">research</g> and outreach. The selected individual will be responsible for guiding strategic planning efforts, mentoring and evaluating faculty and staff, managing the department's budget and representing the department's interest <g class="gr_ gr_23 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace gr-progress" id="23" data-gr-id="23">to</g> the college and university. This dynamic leader will work closely with the IME Industrial Advisory Board to accomplish outreach and cultivate relationships with IME stakeholders in the region and beyond.

    All application materials must be submitted electronically to the NDSU Human Relations office. Review of applications will begin in mid-December and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date would be July 1, 2018, but some accommodation may be available.



    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A completed Ph. D. in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related discipline
    • A distinguished professional record of teaching, research, and service that merits tenure and appointment at the rank of full professor
    • Evidence of superior leadership ability 
    • Evidence of long-term commitment to quality teaching and student learning 
    • Evidence of a strong research program as demonstrated by scholarly work and funding history
    • Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively and collegially interact with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body
    • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to guide others in a creative, collaborative, and productive manner towards identified goals
    • Commitment to fostering a department climate that supports and respects faculty, staff, and students who represent diversity in numerous forms


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with the ABET-mandated continuous improvement and accreditation process 
    • A strong record of previous administrative experience
    • Familiarity with land-grant and research institutions 
    • Licensed Professional Engineer, or the ability to obtain a license
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult, and work with industrial stakeholders
    • Experience in innovative curriculum development, implementation, and assessment 
    • Familiarity with intellectual property issues and research commercialization
