Earlier this summer, the National Statistics Organization (NSO) in Mongolia hosted a ceremony in which the nation's new Handbook of Teaching Statistics was formally introduced to the public. This handbook will provide the basis for the introduction of statistics into the high school mathematics and science curriculum in all high schools throughout Mongolia, which will greatly increase the population's numeracy.

This effort, which is several years in the making, is a direct result of the incredible work that the 2016 INFORMS president and Yale University professor Ed Kaplan, INFORMS member and University of Alabama professor Jim Cochran, and Penn State professor Jim Rosenberger conducted with several colleagues from Mongolia while visiting Ulaanbaatar two years ago.

The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking Mongolian government officials and representatives of the U.S. Embassy, and featured speeches by Jim Cochran; as well as the Chairperson of NSO; the Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Sports; and the Director of the Institute of Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Sports.
