We invite department chairs to nominate new and early career junior faculty members for <g class="gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="25" data-gr-id="25">the 2018</g> INFORMS New Faculty Colloquium (NFC), which is scheduled for November 2nd and 3rd, 2018. The NFC is designed to provide guidance on keys to success for new faculty, and to facilitate network building by connecting new faculty to their peers as well as senior INFORMS scholars including department chairs, INFORMS Fellows, and recently tenured Associate Professors in Engineering, Business, and Applied Mathematics. Topics to be covered include:

    1. Sponsored Research – Grants
    2. Building a Research Program and Publishing
    3. Collaborative Research and Working with Ph.D. Students
    4. Effective Teaching
    5. Professional Service
    6. Tenure Process and Reappointment
    7. Time Management and Work-Life Balance
    8. Soft Skills

The NFC will also include tips on what not to do, discuss differences between business and engineering schools, provide opportunities to interact with panelists, and more.

Due to increased demand and limited capacity, only applicants nominated by their department will only be considered. A department can nominate more than one eligible individual, but a limited number of applicants will be accepted. Applicants should submit a nomination package that includes: (i) a letter from the department chair of the nominee, (ii) a copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae, and (iii) a statement by the nominee that outlines their expectations from the colloquium and includes a set of up to 10 questions that they would like to see addressed. The nomination package should consist of a single PDF file that contains the specified items in the listed order. Please visit the INFORMS Combined Colloquia website (http://meetings2.informs.org/wordpress/phoenix2018/pre-meeting/#combined-colloquia) for additional information and an online application form.

For questions, please contact Julie Ivy (jsivy@ncsu.edu) or Nickolas Freeman (nkfreeman@cba.ua.edu), this year's NFC co-chairs. Please share this announcement with any junior faculty who might be interested and satisfy the previously stated criteria for applicants.
