The Systems Assessment Group (SAG) of Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) has a post-doctoral researcher position open for a candidate with strong expertise and experience in transportation network modeling, operations research and energy impact analyses of transportation fuels and vehicle technologies. The candidate should have a good understanding of the general operation of the transportation sector and of transportation systems within it, as well as with various aspects of advanced vehicle technologies. The candidate should possess a good knowledge of emerging technologies (such as connected and automated vehicles, shared mobility, etc) and alternative fuels likely to be used in transportation systems, be familiar with various databases and analytical models and have experience in analyzing large data sets. Potential projects include, but are not limited to, developing models to identify the optimal locations for electric vehicle charging infrastructure or hydrogen filling stations under given conditions, the likely buildout of those locations into networks, and the effect of that buildout on market penetration.

Qualified individuals should have a Ph.D. degree in transportation, operations research, mechanical or environmental engineering, or a related field, and be familiar with energy and environmental impacts of transportation systems, modes and vehicle/fuel technologies. Candidates should have computer programming skills in Java or Python (or similar language), MS Excel, SAS and other relevant software. Knowledge or experience about vehicle to grid interaction is a big plus. Good oral and written communication skills are also required. The candidate is expected to start ASAP.
