    Dear INFORMS Members:

As you probably know, planning is well underway for the INFORMS 2018 Government & Analytics Summit in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 2018.

We were delighted to be able to share the news of our two keynote speakers, Secretary Anthony Foxx and General Michael Hayden, and we are now pleased to be able to announce more information about event's agenda and next steps of our planning.

Based on the recommendations of the Signal Group, the invitation-only Summit will be a half-day event to accommodate the typical nature of our target audiences' work schedules and time demands.

After a brief welcome and introduction, the event will begin with Secretary Foxx and General Hayden's remarks. It will then transition into three concurrent panel discussions – National Security, Healthcare, and Transportation. These topics were recommended by Signal Group as areas of high-interest to the policy community, and of course, INFORMS has rich expertise in these areas.

Each panel will consist of between three and five participants plus one moderator.

Each is designed to cover an array of related subtopics, such as:

    Panel 1 Topics: National Security

    • Operations Tempo
    • Making DoD more efficient (focus of current DOD-wide audit)
    • Injury Prevention / Military Readiness
    • Cyber threat detection (and insider threats)
    • Coordination of humanitarian efforts
    • Human capital (housing, families, etc.)
    • Border security (migration along borders and trends)

    Panel 2 Topics: Healthcare

    • Patient record management / Health IT
    • Combatting opioid abuse
    • VA hospitals: patient streamlining and management
    • Predicting disease outbreaks
    • Analyzing hospital infections (and cost)
    • How big data can lower cost of healthcare

    Panel 3 Topics: Modernizing Transportation

    • Rail Safety
    • Congestion Mitigation
    • Autonomous Vehicles
    • Drones (management of airspaces)
    • Air Traffic Control
    • Multi-modal transportation infrastructure (integration of highways, transit, bicycles, and pedestrians in cities)

The Summit Planning Committee has asked INFORMS Fellows and Subdivision Leaders to nominate panelists and moderators for each of our three panels.

Those nominated should not only be INFORMS members and credible subject matter experts, but they should also be dynamic public speakers with an ability to engage with the type of non-technical individuals who will largely be in attendance.

If you are interested in participating on one of these panels, or have recommendations for others, we would ask that you get in touch with either a Subdivision Leader or a Fellow.

We have asked the Fellows and Subdivision Leaders to submit their nominations by 12:00 PM Eastern on April 6th. That information will then be provided to Signal Group, who will independently review all the recommendations. Signal will then make the final determinations as to the participants on each panel to make sure we've got the best possible construct to make the Summit a success.

Thank you for your continued interest and support. We look forward to sharing more details in the weeks ahead.

    Sincerely,

    Laura
