    Call for Nominations: Academic Leadership Workshop

    Date: October 21, 2017

    Venue: TBD, Houston, TX

     

    Nominations Due: July 28, 2017

     

    The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) requests nominations for the Academic Leadership Workshop to be held on Saturday October 21, 2017, in conjunction with and prior to the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Houston, TX.

     

    This all-day event is designed for faculty of all ranks with an interest in all levels of academic leadership including, but not limited to, university presidents, provosts, deans, heads/chairs, center directors, and undergraduate and graduate directors. The workshop provides information that can be useful for becoming efficient and effective leaders. Panel speakers are highly visible world-class current and former academic administrators. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and network with peers in academic leadership positions. 

     

    Topics tentatively scheduled (see page 3) for presentation include:

    • How to become a Successful Leader
    • Time Management
    • Conflict Resolution

    In addition, panels will discuss various levels of academic leadership:

    • President/Provost
    • College Dean
    • Department Chair/Head
    • Undergraduate/Graduate Programs
    • Research Centers

     

    Meals (continental breakfast, lunch, and a reception) are provided during the program. There is a $99 fee per person for this event. All other expenses incurred (including registration for the INFORMS Annual Meeting) are the responsibility of the nominee. Attendees must register separately for the INFORMS Annual Meeting.     All nominations must be made by department heads/chairs or college deans and should be submitted via email to both Organizers:

    • The nomination email should specify the name(s) of the nominee(s) and the contact information including the affiliation of the nominee; and
    • Attach a current CV for the nominee in MS Word or PDF.

     

    E-mail nominations to ginolim@uh.edu  and sgrasman@kettering.edu  with the subject line "INFORMS Academic Leadership Workshop Nomination." Nominations must be received by July 28, 2017. Early nominations are encouraged since space is limited. Nominees will be notified whether they are accepted for this colloquium no later than 2 weeks from the deadline to allow time to make travel arrangements.
