The Department of Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a faculty position in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences. Candidate expertise is sought in a wide variety of data analytics and decision sciences areas, including but not limited to modeling and predictive analytics; data analytics and visualization; data management and governance; complex problem-solving, policy analysis and project management; ethics in data and decisions; and organizational and collective decision-making.  Candidates should have the appropriate academic background and expertise to teach courses and conduct research in data analytics and decision sciences, with particular skills and interests in teaching a team-based interdisciplinary capstone course.

The faculty position is part of a broader university initiative in Data and Decisions described as a Destination Area (https://provost.vt.edu/destination-areas/da-overview/da-data.html).  Virginia Tech's Data and Decisions Destination Area (DD-DA) seeks to advance the human condition and society with better decisions through data.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary research, curriculum development, and global outreach with other faculty working in the DA.  Candidates with demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary teaching or research that aligns with the Data and Decisions vision are particularly encouraged to apply. This position is specifically geared toward teaching the capstone course for the Data and Decisions Destination Area.

Successful candidates must have a doctorate in Business Information Technology (BIT) or closely related field, and evidence of prior teaching experience.  In addition to strong evidence of teaching ability, a successful candidate will have excellent communication and collaboration skills, interest in developing and pursuing curricula and scholarly initiatives that consider issues of the human condition as a foundational element, and a strong interest in, and commitment to, working with diverse populations.  As a faculty member in the Pamplin College of Business, the candidate is also expected to pursue an active research program and participate in departmental, college and destination area activities.  Additional information about the Department of Business Information Technology can be found at www.bit.vt.edu. Please direct questions about the position to the BIT Department Head, Roberta S. Russell at rrussell@vt.edu.

Applications will be accepted online at https://listings.jobs.vt.edu/postings/80309. Applicants must submit a formal cover letter, a current resume or curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy/experience, a statement of research interests/experience, a diversity statement describing the applicant's interest or experience in working with diverse groups and underrepresented populations, and contact information for three references. The position is currently posted as tenure-track, but non-tenure track collegiate applications will be accepted from those candidates more interested in the pedagogic and curricula aspects of the position. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
