Doctoral students face a number of challenges as they work to attain their terminal degree, but none is more important than the decision to pursue a career in academia or practice.

The target audience for the 2017 Doctoral Student Colloquium is current doctoral students 2-3 years from graduation who need guidance choosing their future path.

Sessions will focus on examining both career options and comparing/choosing between the two. It will also address topics like navigating the job hunt, dealing with work-life balance issues, and suggestions concerning how to start preparing and positioning oneself for the job market. Nominations will be accepted from all levels of PhD students but preference will be given to second or third year PhD students.

This colloquium is one of three offered by INFORMS; the others are the Teaching Effectiveness Colloquium and the New Faculty Colloquium. All of the colloquia events will take place in Houston, TX on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, ahead of the 2017 INFORMS Annual Meeting. The colloquia will begin on Friday evening with a welcome dinner for all participants and will continue all day Saturday with informative sessions, good food, and plenty of time to socialize and network. All colloquia participants must also register for the INFORMS Annual Meeting. The cost is $85 for students, $215 for all others.

The deadline is fast approaching! All nomination packages must be received by August 30, so please respond today! For complete nomination requirements and to make your submission, click here. Burcu B. Keskin is serving as 2017 Chair of the Combined Colloquia Committee. The chairs of the individual colloquium are Dr. Mihai Banciu (TEC), Dr. Sandra Eksioglu (DSC), and Dr. Aurelie Thiele and Dr. Julie Simmons Ivy (NFC).

We look forward to seeing you in Houston!
