Calling all professors, undergraduates, and master’s level students!

We’re excited to announce the INFORMS O.R. & Analytics Student Team Competition -- giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience and demonstrate soft skills in solving a real business problem.

The competition problem, provided by Syngenta, involves deciding which seed varieties to commercialize. Student teams will be given the same data sets and access to software, submitting written entries in January 2017. Finalists will be announced in February and invited to present their solutions in person at the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and O.R. in April 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Teams may be comprised of any combination of undergraduate or master’s level students from the same university. Eight finalist teams will receive a cash prize, with first prize at $7,500. Finalists will also receive a stipend for travel and registration to the conference, award certificates for each team member – and bragging rights for their school!

Start thinking now about incorporating the competition into fall courses, or recruiting your fellow students to form a winning team. Teams must register their intent to compete by September 30. Visit the website for complete details on the problem, rules, timeline, awards, judging criteria, and more.
