  • 1.  Experiences with Supply Chain Guru?

I'm doing a review of supply chain optimization software. Can anyone share their experiences with and success (or utter frustration?) with Supply Chain Guru? Also, how well does this software vertically scale (does it support cluster-computing) and support sensitivity analsyis?

Many thanks to anyone who can offer their inputs.

    Hi Michael,

I used SCG to analyze and redesign the European distribution network of a large paint producer. I am glad to share some of my experiences with you, however, I was working with version 8 whereas the current version is X.

My impression of SCG is very positive: Once you got the hand on it, it is very powerful tool. While many things can be modeled and analyzed directly in the Software, for more detailed analyses or larger projects it is better to use SQL to extract and aggregate the data.

When it comes to modelling, SCG offers a lot of flexibility: You can include production processes, BOMs etc. It alsow allows to define custom constraints, which we, for example, used to model piecewise linear shipping costs and constrain from which countries deliveries can be made. More complex formulations shouldn't be a problem.

For sensitivity analysis SCG offers a scenario tool, with which you can use filters to modify part of your data. You can, for example, force some sites to be closed(opened and/or increase all or some shipping costs. The Scenario tool is really great for sensitivity analysis and we ended up using it a lot: We ran well over 50 different scenarios in which we changed costs, production capabilities and other constraints.

Regarding parallelization: SCG offers a Cloud Solution with which you can run the optimization on SCG servers. This at least allows you to run several scenarios in parallel.

If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me.
