Stochastic Systems is increasing its frequency of publication, going to 4 issues per year starting in March. The journal remains open access with no submission charges or page charges. We aim to return reviews within 3 months of submission.

The editorial statement of Stochastic Systems https://pubsonline.informs.org/journal/stsy has been updated to reflect two clarifications:

    1. Stochastic Systems welcomes papers at the interface of stochastics, modeling, statistics, and data science.
    2. While many papers at Stochastic Systems have a methodological focus, methodological content is not necessary for publication. The journal also welcomes papers that present techniques or insights that advance the practice of applied probability. A simple but novel idea with high realized or potential impact is relevant. The main criteria for publication of such applied papers are (1) Innovation: does the paper present new ideas, or existing ideas in a new setting? (2) Application: is the paper truly useful to practice? (3) Translation: can the ideas in the paper be applied to many different settings/organizations? To buttress this point, the most cited paper in Stochastic Systems is "On Patient Flow in Hospitals: A Data-Based Queueing-Science Perspective," 2015, by Mor Armony, Shlomo Israelit, Avishai Mandelbaum, Yariv N. Marmor, Yulia Tseytlin, Galit B. Yom-Tov. 5(1), pp. 146–194. This paper presents an exploratory data analysis of transactional hospital data, and has inspired much follow-on work.
