Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition.

    —Jacques Barzun

When INFORMS set out to create its Continuing Education program, it put educators at the center of the development.   Anyone who has even sat through a dry lecture disguised as a professional development course knows that a good instructor can make all the difference.  INFORMS continuing education instructors are that difference.  Take for example James Drew, instructor for Foundations of Modern Predictive Analytics.  Jim spent a career as a statistics consultant at Verizon, working with various departments on forecasting, optimization, and quality control to name just a few of his jobs.  Reflecting on his work at Verizon Drew said, “I learned how many business problems, in so many arenas, are based on managers and executives anxiously trying to make sense of large and disparate amounts of data.” But he wasn’t just a statistician at a large corporation trying to help executives make sense of data; Jim was (and still is) an adjunct professor at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, helping shape the future of students in the Management program.  At the intersection of his work in the corporate world and higher education is the Foundations of Modern Predictive Analytics workshop he conducts for INFORMS.  “It's just plain fun to solve people's problems and they're almost always grateful in one way or another.  And if you can teach them a few analytic foundations, that’s even better!”

Jim will be conducting the Foundations of Modern Predictive Analyticsworkshop in Orlando, Florida on April 13-14 at the University of Central Florida Executive Development Center.  For more information or to register, please visit https://www.informs.org/Certification-Continuing-Ed/INFORMS-Continuing-Education.
