    Tenure Track Faculty Position: Cyber-Physical Systems

    The College of Engineering at Wayne State University has embarked on an initiative to create a world-class center of research excellence in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). The College of Engineering is a leader in the practical integration of teaching and research.  Located in Midtown Detroit, Wayne State University is a preeminent public urban research university known for academic and research excellence, success across a diverse student body and meaningful engagement in its urban community.  The College has more than 130 faculty with a student enrollment of 3,700.  Currently a sizeable group of faculty from multiple departments collaborate on cross-cutting research including work in areas such as Sensors, Smart Buildings/Infrastructure, Wireless Health, Digital Manufacturing / Supply Chains, Product-Service Systems, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

    The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field. We expect to make the appointment at the Assistant Professor level, but will consider exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level. Position start date is August 15, 2018.

     Preferred Qualifications: We seek to hire an exceptional scholar that can develop a program of research in:

    • Machine learning and signal processing as applied to cyber-physical systems
    • Data integration across manufacturing lifecycle
    • Digital manufacturing control for cyber physical systems
    • Digital twin technologies and platforms 
    • Analytics for digital manufacturing, supply chains, and product service systems 
    • Communications and networking to support the internet of things 
    • Cyber-Physical Systems with humans in the loop; human-automation interaction 
    • Other areas related to Cyber-Physical Systems

    However, qualified candidates in all areas of industrial and systems engineering are also welcome to apply. Applicants must have earned a doctorate by July 2018, show evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications, have experience or strong interest in teaching and mentoring students, and have a strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the college and university.

    Responsibilities: The ideal candidate must have the ability to: (a) develop and maintain a productive research program, including external funding; (b) supervise the thesis and dissertation research of graduate students; (c) teach undergraduate and graduate courses; and (d) contribute to college and university service activities.

    Department: The Industrial & Systems Engineering Department has 13 faculty members, with research strengths in Healthcare Systems Engineering, Operations Research & Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Development. External funding exceeds $2.5M annually and the department has over 50 Ph.D. students, along with 300 Master's students, and 75 undergraduate majors.
