About the Chicago Chapter

INFORMS serves the scientific and professional needs of Analytics Professionals and Operations Researchers including educators, scientists, students, managers, analysts, and consultants. The Institute serves as a focal point for operations research (O.R.) and analytics professionals, permitting them to communicate with each other and reach out to other professional societies, as well as the varied clientele of the profession's research and practice.

Some of the services INFORMS provides include:

  • Publishing 17 scholarly journals that describe the latest O.R. and analytics methods and applications and an industry and  membership magazine with news from across the profession.
  • Organizing national and international conferences for academics and professionals, as well as for members of the society's special interest groups.

INFORMS Mission:

INFORMS will advance the practice, research, methods, and applications of O.R. and analytics by:

  • encouraging, facilitating, and rewarding excellence;
  • communicating every aspect of O.R. and analytics to all appropriate audiences through journals, conferences, magazines, the internet, and other appropriate media;
  • promoting the achievements and capabilities of O.R. and analytics professionals to managers and executives, policy makers, and the general public;
  • providing lifelong education and career development opportunities to O.R. and analytics professionals; and
  • attracting the best people to the field of O.R. and analytics and attracting those in the field to INFORMS.

We are glad to announce that Chicago Chapter has earned the INFORMS 2022 Chapter Excellence Award on behalf of the Chapters Fora Committee of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

The purpose of this award is to recognize chapters' efforts while also providing guidance for chapters and sharing best practices. To receive the award, a chapter must perform well in at least 4 of the 7 categories of (1) Membership, (2) Proving value to members, (3) Providing value to the community, (4) Communications, (5) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice, (6) Special initiatives, and (7) Administrative tasks.
